Hello! Welcome to Paper Kite, we are a cheerful, brick and mortar boutique located in the charming College View neighborhood of Lincoln, Nebraska. Each of our thoughtfully selected goods are handmade by local and regional artisans whenever possible. The shop is founded and managed by me, Megan Hasselbalch, but not without the help of my husband Jordan, family and friends, with the occasional help from our 5 year old daughter Mary Frances and 20 month old Lenna.
I was born and raised in Lincoln. After graduating from the University of Nebraska- Lincoln with a degree in Art, I moved to San Francisco and began managing and buying for a local maternity boutique, Mom's The Word. About four years later, I moved back home to my roots in Lincoln and began working for a friends small shoe shop (who is now our Paper Kite neighbor) Pattino Shoe Boutique. Later on a whim, I got word of an opening at national retailer Anthropologie as the Display Coordinator. Another move, this time to Omaha, NE and job I couldn’t pass up- full time creating art and display. About year into my new role at Anthropologie I got word of a space opening up in College View. I knew in my gut it was my chance to follow my dream of owning my own shop and jumped at the opportunity. In October of 2013, Paper Kite opened it’s doors! (Wow! That sounded a lot easier than it was is reality...opening and owning a business is no small feat!)
The concept for Paper Kite is sort of a compilation of all of my experiences, I have tried my best to create a space that people want to visit- a place where people feel welcome, where they take their time to explore and be inspired. I wanted it to be a space filled with the most cheerful gifts, for all of the celebrations in life-little or big. For when you need something made with a little love.
Welcome, I hope you love it as much as we do!
